The fourth annual Race for Every Child on Saturday attracted nearly 5,000 participants to raise awareness and support for children’s health.

Hosted by Children’s National Health System, the event at Freedom Plaza in downtown Washington, DC included a 5K run/walk and Kids’ Dash. To date, the event has raised more than $1.2 million to help fund specialized medical care, expand access to care, and find cures for childhood diseases.

This year’s race was co-chaired by Campbell and Grace Smith, whose son received treatment at Children’s National. “Children’s National Health System has had an enormous impact on our family’s life, and we credit the doctors there for giving our son the hope of a healthy future,” the Smiths said. “But we’re not alone. Children’s National touches the lives of nearly every child in our community. The Race for Every Child is one of our favorite events because it’s a joyful celebration of children’s health.”

Since 2013, the Race for Every Child has collectively raised more than $4 million to support children’s health, including wellness programs, research, and community health initiatives. Kurt Newman, MD, President and CEO of Children’s National, said, “It is tremendously inspiring to see current and past patients of Children’s National, their families, friends and neighbors come together to build healthier, stronger futures for all kids.”
